PERSIST: A Comprehensive Guide for Student Success in Higher Education
This is a one (1) day session to be held on Friday, December 13, 2013.
Audience: Grades 6-12: High School General and Special Education Teachers, Career Counselors, Guidance Counselors, and Social Workers
Presenter: Representatives of ECMC Foundation, Oakdale, MN
Access to higher education alone is not enough to provide educational opportunity to all when low-income, first-generation students who go to college are the least likely to make it to graduation. This workshop follows a toolkit for retaining students who are most at risk of dropping out.
The tools contained in “PERSIST: A Comprehensive Guide for Student Success in Higher Education” are designed to help at-risk students successfully navigate the varied aspects of the college experience. The ultimate objective is to make students more likely to graduate and be better prepared for careers outside of college.
SERC is offering this workshop to educators and counselors on the high-school level to help them set goals for their low-income students that include a college degree—not just attending college—as a means to success.
The ECMC Foundation conducts the training and provides the toolkit to all participants. PERSIST is the third in the foundation’s series, which also include “Believing the College Dream” and “Realizing the College Dream.”
